"The growth and enhanced development of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, registered at the end of the 20th century, was based on the construction of different types of infrastructures, especially in the accessibilities field: harbours, airports and roads; which forced to an adequate response from the construction industry. The amounts of cement needed were such that the bulk cement self-service system was placed in the priority agenda of the company.
Knowing about the existing self-service system in the national cement plants operating 24 hours a day, we came to the conclusion that it was not suitable for our company since we worked and wanted to continue working just for 8 hours a day. We needed a fully automated unmanned system during the supply and cement loading process, but fraud immune. These were the starting conditions when we challenged Cachapuz to solve them and they were solved to one's satisfaction.
In 2001 the bulk self-service unmanned system came into operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in the process of supllying and loading cement vehicles, incorporating different mechanisms and fraud prevention devices based on two methods:
- One loading whose cards only allow a cement loading operation, allocated according to the prior checking of the commercial situation of the customer towards the company;
- Multi-loading with cards that allow multiple cement loading operations, with subsequent checking of the commercial situation of the customer towards the company.
This is the system that has been in operation in the company since 2001, allowing meeting the needs of cement of our customers with no additional charges to Cimentos Madeira.
We are pleased to know that this is a worldwide pioneering system, which is being constantly developed and refined in Portugal by national technicians and that it is being implemented in different continents."
